During the 1970s he exhibited in various exhibitions and participated in important international events, such as the European forum of young artists and the "X Quadriennale Nazionale d'Arte Contemporanea" at the invitation of Crispolti. He also followed Argan's courses and participated in various international prizes, such as the "Termoli Prize" and the "Dibuix Joan Mirò". In 1977 he held his first solo show at the Galeter art center in Adro-Brescia, entitled "Primum vive deinde Philosophari". Over time he continued to exhibit in numerous solo and group exhibitions, often also working in South East Asia in Singapore. In 2011 he participated in the 54th Venice Biennale. His artistic research has always diversified between installations, perceptive interventions, painting and sculpture, and he has always had a particular interest in abstraction and "pure visibility". He has also worked around the fascination of monumental sculpture and the persistence of memory in city space with proposals and projects that affect the urban landscape. In addition to his artistic activity, Papi has also carried out an intense teaching activity and collaborated with various public institutions. He promoted numerous meetings and conferences and participated in various publications in the fields of Art and Architecture between the two wars and in the dialogue between the Visual Arts.
