Gualtiero Passani Biography
Gualtiero Passani was born in 1926 in Carrara and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara. Subsequently, he specialized at the Vienna School of Watercolor, where he personally exhibited at the Moderner Kunst-Ungarnasse Gallery. In 1948, Passani founded the "Artistic Association of Figurative Arts", a movement which was joined by numerous painters and sculptors from Carrara. In the 1950s, Passani was inspired by the French Impressionists, looking with interest to the greats of French painting. In 1956, Passani's art was recognized in the Bulletin of the Venice Biennale. In 1960, the President of the Republic at the time, Giovanni Gronchi, purchased some of Passani's works for his own collection, attracted by the artist's expressive originality. Although he has always maintained full autonomy in his artistic work, Passani has had the opportunity to work and interact with internationally renowned artists such as Arturo Dazzi, Moses Levy, Ardengo Soffici, Pablo Picasso and many others. Gualtiero Passani's works are present in important public collections in Italy and abroad, such as the Civic Library of La Spezia, the Modern Art Gallery of Palazzo Pitti in Florence, the Italian Consulate in Vienna and in the Cabinet of Drawings and Prints from the University of Pisa.
