Tony Paul was born in the Bronx, NY, in 1918. He studied at Pratt Institute and spent most of his career, which spanned nearly 60 years, in the New York area, with periods spent in Italy and Spain. His designs were distributed by major companies such as Raymor, Westwood, Verplex, Woodlin-Hall, The Elton Company and finally by his own design studio Tony Paul and Associates (Tony was also co-owner of The Elton Company and, like many studios Mid-Century, the name Elton was created by combining the surnames of the partners1, in this case Elliott and Tony). Tony Paul has designed a wide range of products throughout his career, including lighting and furniture. One of his armchairs was ultimately selected for MOMA's prestigious "Good Design" award. During his professional career, he collaborated with many of the best industrial designers of the Mid-Century design movement, such as Arthur Umanoff, Russel Wright, Ben Seibel and Paul McCobb. Tony Paul is remembered as a world-renowned American industrial designer. He is particularly known for his furniture, housewares and lighting designs.
