Maria Perego was born in Venice in 1923 and after attending the Academy of Dramatic Art she began working in puppetry in Rome and Venice. In the 1950s she began her career as a television writer, collaborating in particular with the Rai headquarters in Milan, during the boom in television entertainment. Among his creations are the character Woodpecker Cannocchiale and his fundamental invention of animated puppets, moved by animators who work behind the scenes of a special theater. Known for the invention of the Topo Gigio puppet, which became an iconic character on Italian television starting in the 1960s, Maria Perego was also an innovative figure in the world of entertainment. Despite her boldness and irony, she has always maintained a modest profile but has been described as an "iron professional". Maria dies on November 7, 2019.
