François Perrier was a French painter and engraver born in Pontarlier in 1590. His training is little known, but it is known that at the age of thirty he went to Rome, where he studied the great masters of the Renaissance, including Giovanni Lanfranco, from which he drew inspiration for his own style. François Perrier was a French painter and engraver born in Pontarlier in 1590. His training is little known, but it is known that at the age of thirty he went to Rome, where he studied the great masters of the Renaissance, including Giovanni Lanfranco, from which he drew inspiration for his own style. Returning to France, after a short stay in Lyon, he settled in Paris and in 1630 collaborated with Simon Vouet. Between 1632 and 1634 Perrier had Charles Le Brun and Isaac Fuller as students. In 1635 he returned to Rome and worked on the decoration of Palazzo Peretti for ten years. In 1638 he published a collection of 100 etchings. In 1640, he was one of the twelve founders of the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture and became a member of the National Academy of Saint Luke in Paris. François Perrier died in Paris in July 1650.
