Paola Pezzi Biography
Paola Pezzi was born in Brescia in 1963. Her artistic and exhibition career began in the early 1980s and came to fruition when, in 1985, at the invitation of Luciano Fabro and Jole De Sanna, she took part in a collective exhibition in the spaces of the Casa degli Artisti in Milan, which was followed by exhibitions of the importance of the Saatchi & Saatchi Prize in 1988, with the consequent purchase of more works, now part of the famous London collection, of Examples. New Italian art at the Riversides Studios in London, by FABBRICA, organized by Massimo Minini in a disused industrial building in via Apollonio in Brescia, both in 1989, or by Imprevisto, curated by Luciano Pistoi in the Castello di Volpaia in Radda in Chianti (SI) in 1991. Her first personal exhibition took place in 1990, in the Franco Toselli Gallery and since then Paola Pezzi's progress has been marked by important stages, such as the personal exhibition at the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome in 1995 and the acquisition of some works, as well as by herself, by Giuseppe Panza di Biumo, as well as by collaboration with galleries such as Micheline Szwajcer in Antwerp, Victoria Miro in London, Simonis in Paris, Toselli, Ca' di Fra and Cardi in Milan, Massimo Minini in Brescia, G7 in Bologna, Dina Caròla in Naples, Martano in Turin... up to today, with dozens and dozens of exhibitions under her belt, among which I cannot fail to mention Quali Cothings We Are, at the invitation of Alessandro Mendini, at the Triennale Design Museum, in Milan (2010); Homo ludens. When art meets play, curated by Francesco Tedeschi, at the Gallerie d'Italia in Piazza della Scala, Milan (2013); Lost object. Discourses on the method, at the Pino Pascali Museum Foundation, in Polignano a Mare (2014); Imago Mundi. Luciano Benetton Collection, at the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation, in Turin, and at the Giorgio Cini Foundation, in Venice (2015). I continue this summary list by adding the participation in the BAG -Bocconi Art Gallery project, both in 2015 and 2016, in the exhibition spaces of Bocconi University, with the installation Ridisegnare il mondo, consisting of a dissemination of over forty flags, echoing the presence to the important occasion wanted by Bruno Corà and part of the celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the birth of Alberto Burri: Au rendez-vous des amis. Conference - International Exhibition, promoted by the Fondazione Palazzo Albizzini Collezione Burri at Palazzo Vitelli in Sant'Egidio, in Città di Castello, again in 2015, to conclude arriving at the closer present, which sees Paola Pezzi as the protagonist of an exhibition in the rooms of the Museum Complex of Palazzo Ducale in Mantua.
