Philipp Hackert (Prenzlau, 1737 - San Pietro di Careggi, 1807) Jakob Philipp Hackert was a German painter. He traveled extensively in Europe, especially in Italy, where he settled in 1768. He stayed for a long time in Rome, where he met Pope Pius VI and the Russian Tsarina Catherine the Great. He created cycles of important paintings, such as the "Ten views of Horace's country house" and in 1786 he became court painter of King Ferdinand IV of Naples. In the meantime he also created the famous views of Caserta and its palace. In the last years of his career he worked exclusively for private clients.
