Carlo Piacenza Biography

Carlo Piacenza (Turin, 3 December 1814 – Castiglione Torinese, 1887) was an Italian painter. A young student in Turin together with Edoardo Perotti, he studied at the Accademia Albertina in Turin[1] and was a pupil of Pietro Fea and Giovanni Battista Biscarra. In 1840 he attended the studio of the French watercolorist Jean Jullierat. In those years he began a large production of paintings, dedicating himself to landscapes and showing a particular interest in the Piedmontese territory. In 1856 he became the chair of Drawing at the Military Academy of Turin and among his most famous students was Ernesto Allason, who had a very short career due to his death at the age of 47. Upon Allason's death he replaced his pupil in his role as painting professor of the then princess, Margherita of Savoy. He died at the age of 73 in Castglione Torinese. He was named honorary member of the Albertina Academy; His works are preserved in private collections but some can be admired at the Gallery of Modern Art in Turin, such as "Landscape with stormy sky" (1849) and "Country" (1856).
