Gennaro Picinni (1933 – 2022) born in Bari on 20 July 1933 and after an abstractionist debut in the 1950s he became part of the 'painters of the Naviglio' in Milan, together with Crippa, Fontana and others. His stylistic signature acquired over the years has earned him the nickname 'Flemish of Puglia'. Starting from the 1950s, Picinni gave great impetus to his artistic streak, participating in various competitions at provincial level which increased his fame as a painter. In the first years of his activity he dedicated himself to the creation of works with surrealistic and abstract tones. In 1959 he won 1st Prize at the third International Mediterranean Biennial in Alexandria, Egypt. Throughout the sixties and seventies he tirelessly followed the path to success. At the height of his career, having dedicated himself to religious painting, he was able to see some of his paintings enter the showcases of the Vatican Museums.
