Ludwig Pietsch (1824 - 1911) was a German painter, art critic and writer and a friend of Theodor Fontane.
Pietsch attended the art and professional school in Danzig and, from 1841 to 1843, the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin. He also studied under the Swiss painter Charles Gleyre in Paris.

Ludwig Pietsch (1824 - 1911) was a German painter, art critic and writer and a friend of Theodor Fontane.
Pietsch attended the art and professional school in Danzig and, from 1841 to 1843, the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin. He also studied under the Swiss painter Charles Gleyre in Paris.
He worked as an illustrator for various newspapers and magazines, including the Leipzig Zeitung. His articles for the Vossische Zeitung and the Haude- und Spenersche Zeitung began appearing in 1864, and he later contributed to the Breslau Schlesische Zeitung, where he served as editor-in-chief for a period, as well as to the magazine Grenzboten published by Gustav Freytag and Julian Schmidt and the Berliner Allgemeine Zeitung.
He also reported on his travel experiences, art and craft exhibitions and accompanied Crown Prince Frederick in the Franco-German War of 1871.
