Orazio Pigato Biography

Orazio Pigato was born in Reggio Calabria in 1896 and arrived in Verona as a young man and died there in 1966. In the Verona capital he studied art at the Cignaroli academy where he met other painters with whom he cultivated long friendships. Pigato was a humble painter with a serene temperament, qualities that can be found in the subjects of his works and in the choice of colors. His most appreciated works were the still lifes with flower vases and the landscapes he portrayed from life, wandering around the Garda or Valpolicella areas. Landscapes which, however, did not depict the territory during the summer, when the colors are alive. Pigato preferred softer tones; however, this was in the most mature phase of his career. In fact, at the beginning he too ventured into some almost avant-garde ventures, especially in very daring titles. Which was not very popular with conservative critics at the time. The first criticisms, however, did not end his career and at the end of his life Orazio could boast of having exhibited in prestigious exhibitions in Venice, Bologna and Rome, as well as obviously in Verona. And in Gran Guardia itself, in 1968 a large commemorative exhibition was organized in his honour.
