Pino Pinelli, born in Catania in 1938, completed his artistic studies in his hometown. In 1963, he moved to Milan, where he continued to live and work, inspired by the artistic personalities of Lucio Fontana, Piero Manzoni and Enrico Castellani. Pinelli participated in the San Fedele awards and held his first solo exhibition at the Bergamini Gallery in 1968. In the 1970s, Pinelli undertook a period of reflection and research during which he sought to explore the inseparable link between tradition and innovation, with particular attention to the pictorial surface. In this context, Pinelli created two cycles of works: the "Topologie" and the "Monochromes". Starting in 1976, Pinelli significantly reduced the size of his works. The art historian Filiberto Menna defined Pinelli's painting as "analytical".
