Alex Pinna was born in Imperia in 1967 and studied painting at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. He began exhibiting his works in 1993, participating in personal and collective exhibitions throughout Italy and in prestigious art fairs. Among his latest exhibitions we remember Sali al Porto di Tropea (2020), Twixt Land & Sea: Tales at Palazzo Bevilacqua Ariosti in Bologna on the occasion of Arte Fiera (2018), Estate Italiana at the MOAH in Lancaster, California (2017) and Ti I look, I look at myself at the Rocco Guglielmo Foundation in Catanzaro (2012). His work has also been presented abroad, in Shanghai, Tel Aviv, London, New York, Los Angeles, Monte Carlo, Cologne and Lugano. Alex Pinna is a professor in charge of sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts of Catanzaro. His works are part of private collections around the world. He currently lives and works in Milan.
The characters represented in his works are characterized by a thin physique and very long legs. They are children of Giacometti's poetics, but with a melancholy irony that lightens their drama. Although the figures are thin and fragile, there is a hint of contemporary humor. These characters tell of a humanity in balance, in search of balance. The artist manages to communicate emotions and feelings without the need for facial expressions, using the position of the body and the precariousness of the situation in which he is represented. The sensation you feel is that of existential instability. Alex Pinna loves comics and languages capable of immediately speaking to people's hearts.
