Silvestro Pistoiesi Biography
Silvestro Pistolesi (1943 - 2022) was born in Florence on 28 November 1943. His passion for painting was early and he enrolled at the Porta Romana Art School, then at the Cappiello Academy. The artistic apprenticeship begins at the studio of the painter Nerina Simi, he also attends the nude course at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. In 1961, during a meeting of the Franciscan youth of Montughi, of which he was a member, he met the painter Antonio Ciccone, a pupil of Pietro Annigoni, who introduced him to the famous Master's studio. Pistolesi remained there for ten years completing and enriching his artistic training, learning unsurpassed techniques, from pencil to tempera grassa. In particular, he delves into the superposition process called "veiling", which gives light to some areas of a painting, as in Rembrandt's works. His first solo exhibition was in 1972 in London, at Arts Unlimited Gallery, a success that brought him to the attention of international critics as a young artist of refined talent. Subsequently there were countless exhibitions in Italy and abroad. Pistolesi is one of the greatest exponents of modern-Renaissance figurative painting.
