Carlo Pittara (1835 or 1836 - Rivara, 1891). He founded the Rivara school in 1861, a group of artists dedicated to representing reality in their works. He received his training at the Albertina Academy in Turin where he received teachings from the painter Camino. In 1856 he went to Geneva to the Charles Humbert studio where he met Castan and Durand. During his periodic stays in Paris he came into contact with the Impressionists. He stayed in Rome for three years, participating in the artistic life of a new environment, different from the Piedmontese one. The artist's most favorite themes are landscape and animals.
