Giambattista Pittoni was born on 6 June 1687 in Venice. He was an Italian painter, coming from a family of painters. He learned the art from his uncle Francesco Pittoni and together they executed the painting "Samson and Delilah" in 1716. Pittoni's painting is characterized by the richness of color, especially the precious blue, the fluid arrangement of forms, an extreme rigor and mannered in defining the details and a suffused sense of languor which gives the compositions a note of refined and affected preciousness, typical of European Rococo. Pittoni, together with Giambattista Tiepolo and Giovanni Maria Morlaiter, founded the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, of which he was president for many years and teacher until his death. Pittoni died in Venice in November 1767 and his tomb is located in the church of San Giacomo dall'Orio.
