Armand Point Biography
Armand Point, born in 1860 in Algiers and died in 1932 in Naples, was a French painter who joined the Symbolist movement. Fascinated by the beauty of North Africa, Point began to paint canvases representing typical oriental subjects, of a realist style. Over time, however, his style veered towards more idealistic and poetic forms. In March 1893, Point took a trip to Italy that had an enormous influence on his art, prompting him to look at the works of the great pre-Renaissance Italian artists. It was thanks to this experience that he founded a community of artists in Marlotte, in the forest of Fontainebleau, which was inspired by the line of the Arts & Crafts movement. In this community, painters, sculptors, gilders, enamellers, and goldsmiths worked together, using ancient techniques to create tapestries, jewelry, and precious objects. Point's death occurred in Naples in 1932.
