Paulus Mijtens, also known as Paul Pontius (Antwerp, 1603 – Antwerp, 1658), was a Flemish engraver. Pontius began studying painting in his city, a center of great importance for Flemish artistic production. Specializing in the technique of engraving, Pontius became a master in the Antwerp pictorial guild at the age of twenty-four. Soon he was chosen as responsible for the engravings made of Rubens' works; until a year before the painter's death, he lived in his house. After Rubens' death, Pontius continued his engraving work, dealing with works by van Dyck, also from Antwerp, Titian and Velázquez. Pontius is best known as a portrait engraver.
