Tom Porta Biography
Tom Porta was born in 1966 in Milan, where he still lives and works. Since he was a child he has shown a great predisposition for drawing and the arts in general. After graduating as a Master of Art, he embarked on a successful career in illustration and photography. Tom has lived in several countries, including Italy, Germany, France, Japan and the United States, and has chosen to integrate his life experiences into his painting since the beginning of his career. Starting in 2003, Tom decided to dedicate himself full time to painting, partially abandoning photography and illustration, and achieving important successes both in important private collections and in internationally renowned auctions such as Sotheby's and Christie's. Tom is present in the ranking of the top 100 Italian artists and was granted the opportunity to participate in the "500 years of Italian painting", a collection that summarizes the history of Italian art from the late 1500s to today. Tom's work focuses on 20th century history, using the past as a mirror to the present. His highly successful series "Shinpu Tokkotai Project" was inspired by Japanese Kamikazes. The artist is also fascinated by the passage of time and the mark left by objects that wear out. After a long journey of 4 years, at the end of which he created the series of 27 canvases "Extinction Agenda III" (which was also highly appreciated in America), Tom presented himself in Milan for the fifth time in 2010 with an exhibition successful. He participated in the "La Storia in Piazza" event at the Palazzo Ducale in Genoa, with a solo show of 20 canvases that reflect his vision of the war, its smallness and the heroism of its protagonists. Tom continues to evolve artistically through his works and exhibitions, becoming increasingly original and socially engaged.
