Ambrogio Preda was an Italian landscape painter, part of the large family of Ticino painters active between the 19th and 20th centuries. He was born in Milan in 1839 and trained at the Brera Academy.
Preda preferred the mountain landscapes of Ticino. Alongside the landscape, Preda also painted rustic scenes with grazing herds, a theme that fascinated him and which allowed him to pass on a local image that the passage of time has almost completely erased. Therefore, his paintings also take on a direct and significant documentary value. An example of his art is the work “Alpestre Landscape”, preserved in the Gallery of Modern Art in Milan. He died near Lugano in 1906.
