Dino Predonzani Biography

Dino Predonzani was born in Koper in 1914 and studied at the Istituto Statale d'Arte in Venice where he obtained an artistic teaching diploma in 1938. In the same years he also attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice. In 1943 he was imprisoned in Germany and remained in captivity until 1945. After returning to Trieste, he dedicated himself to surrealist-tonal painting which was criticized by the magazine Sele-Arte directed by Ragghianti, defining it as "a suggestion of the pure external subject". . However, his participation in the Biennials and Quadrennials redeemed him and accompanied him in his artistic parable which led him to experiment with abstraction. In 1964, Predonzani created Architetture nella Regione, a decorative panel homage to Friuli Venezia Giulia and its historical monuments, in which his work as a great interior decorator emerges. In these years, Predonzani successfully dedicated himself to both naval and sacred decoration. The Still Life of the Sea, a theme present since the artist's debut, reflects the influence of Dalì, in particular in the presence of the net placed in a secluded sea where vestiges of a glorious past and the marine world mix.
