Luigi Presicce Biography
Luigi Presicce was born in 1976 in Porto Cesareo, in the province of Lecce, and lives and works in Florence. After attending the Academy of Fine Arts in Lecce, he decided not to support his thesis and dedicated himself to independent study. In 2007 he participated in the Higher Course in Visual Arts at the Antonio Ratti Foundation in Como, with the American artist Joan Jonas, while in 2008 he took part in the workshop in Viafarini in Milan with the American artist Kim Jones, as part of the Artist in Residence project. Also in 2008, together with Luca Francesconi and Valentina Suma, he founded Brownmagazine and Brown Project Space, for which he oversaw the programming. In 2011 he founded Archiviazioni, a project focused on the investigation and discussion of the contemporary South, together with Giusy Checola and Salvatore Baldi. In 2012 he participated in the Artists in Residence project at MACRO in Rome, inviting nine other artists to take part in the work. Since 2010 he has been involved in the Lu Cafausu project, together with Luigi Negro, Emilio Fantin, Giancarlo Norese and Cesare Pietroiusti, which promotes La festa dei vivi, an event that reflects on death, and which in 2012 was invited by AND AND AND to dOCUMENTA13 in Kassel. In 2016 he contributed to the foundation of the Lac o le Mon Foundation of San Cesario di Lecce and since 2017 he has been part of the Scuola di Santa Rosa, a free drawing school in Florence and New York together with Francesco Lauretta. In 2018 and 2019 he conceived and curated the Painting Symposium at the Lac o le Mon Foundation, a residency/platform centered on Italian painting of the last 30 years. He has also curated numerous exhibitions, including Extemporanea-play at Trebisonda Spazio per l'Arte Contemporanea, Perugia, Unique forms in the continuity of space at Rizzuto Gallery, Palermo and Facciatosta Records by Enne Boi at Toast project space, Florence. He is currently involved in the Immobility Academy, a traveling school based on the development of memory, harmony and responsibility applied to performance. In 2018 he was selected for the Studio Program at Artists Alliance inc in New York, while in 2019 he participated in the TAD Residency at Monastero del Carmine, Bergamo and Lacasapark in Gardiner, NY.
