Camillo Procaccini Biography
Camillo Procaccini was born in Parma on 3 March 1561. He, like his brothers, received his artistic education in his father's workshop in Bologna. His first confirmed work is "St. John the Baptist at the Source", painted at the age of just sixteen. Today, this work is exhibited at the Estense Gallery in Modena and is characterized by its formation on the models of Raphael, Michelangelo and Pellegrino Tibaldi. In the 1580s, the painter managed to obtain prestigious fresco commissions for the cathedral of Bologna thanks to Cardinal Paleotti, who even committed Procaccini to carrying out the works in accordance with the dictates of the Council of Trent. Subsequently, Procaccini moved to Milan at the end of the sixteenth century, following Count Pirro Visconti Borromeo, where later, with the support of his father and brothers, he obtained important assignments and prestigious recognitions in the artistic field, culminating with the commission of the doors of organ for the Cathedral in 1592 and thus becoming one of the most illustrious painters of the city. Camillo Procaccini died on 21 August 1629 in Milan.
