Enrico Prometti was born in Bergamo in 1945. He attended the Carrara Academy in the early sixties. Since the first exhibition in 1966, his desecrating works signal a non-standardised, continually changing personality. In the Seventies he began travelling, Niger, Papuasia, Indonesia, Mali, in search of the source of the artistic gesture: where the hand of the user and that of the creator meet. In Africa, in the desert, he rediscovers the primitive sense of his own incessant manual skill. In 1996 two large solo exhibitions in New York made part of his plastic, pictorial and graphic work known to the world and his personal journey from primitivism to neo-informal.
