Giuseppe Pulvirenti Biography

Giuseppe Pulvirenti is a sculptor born in Syracuse in 1956. He currently lives and works between Rome and Syracuse. From 1970 to 1975 he studied at the State Institute of Art in Syracuse and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, where he has now taught modeling since 1986.
Pulvirenti's artistic research focuses on the use of assembled materials and simple shapes. His works are inspired by objects and elements present in shipyards, and explore the ambiguity of form. Many of the sculptures go beyond their function as objects, and often feature enigmatic titles that add a new dimension to the work.
Pulvirenti has participated in numerous international exhibitions, including the XI Quadrennial of Rome in 1986, the XLIV Biennale of Venice in 1990, the Triennale of Milan in 1994, and many others. He has received numerous awards, including the Premio Acquisto at the Venice Biennale in 1990. He has also had numerous solo exhibitions, including at the Ugo Ferranti Gallery in Rome.
Pulvirenti has a passion for small-sized works, which he believes should be like intimate objects, capable of having a direct relationship with the body. For Pulvirenti, sculpture has a mainly contemplative and not practical function.
