Attilio Pusterla was an Italian painter born in Milan on 10 July 1862. After studying at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts between 1878 and 1880, Pusterla moved to Lake Maggiore and then returned to Milan in 1883. Soon his interest in landscape and portraiture was accompanied by that for the depiction of scenes of daily life, with the intention of documenting the social reality of his time.
In the 1990s, Pusterla devoted himself primarily to mural decoration, creating frescoes for the residence of the magnate Cornelius Kingsley Garrison Billings in Locust Valley and the Railway Committee Room of Parliament in Ottawa. In 1936, the artist and his students executed the decoration in the dome of the rotunda of the County Courthouse in New York. Pusterla died in Woodcliff, New Jersey on April 30, 1941.
