Carlo Quaglia (1903 – 1970) was born in Terni in 1903 and passed away in Rome in 1970. He studied economics and during the Second World War was taken prisoner in India. During his detention he spent five years dedicating himself to the study of painting. Carlo Quaglia's production can be understood in the characteristics of the "Roman School" which saw Mario Mafai, Scipione and Antonietta Raphael among its exponents. Quaglia has held several exhibitions in Italy and also abroad. He participated in various editions of the Rome Quadrennial and the Venice Biennale. A peculiar characteristic of the Roman School, as well as of Carlo Quaglia, is that of an elegant formal synthesis which is carried out essentially through colour, the concreteness of the landscape, constructed by a dense and structural painting, together with its spirituality, evoked by the chromatic mixture of warm, brown colours.
