Maurizio Quarello, artist and illustrator of European fame, was born in 1974 in Turin, where he studied graphic design, illustration and architecture.
After various experiences in advertising and nature painting, starting from 2004, he dedicated himself to children's illustration, obtaining, in that year, the Prix des Mediateurs Figures Futur at the Salon de Montreuil and three first prizes in national competitions.
In 2005 he published his first illustrated book with the publisher Orecchio Acerbo of Rome, which received the Primo Voto award as the best Italian book. To date his books are more than 30, printed in 19 countries on 5 continents, and have received prizes and recognitions in Italy, France, Spain, Belgium and Germany (Andersen Award for best Italian illustrator, Spanish Libreter Award and the Libbylit in Belgium for the best album of the year).

Since 2009 he has held masters and illustration courses for the Fabbrica delle Favole di Macerata association and since 2011 he has been a professor of illustration at the Academy of Fine Arts in Macerata.
As an illustrator, he collaborates with US magazines and newspapers such as the Wall Street Journal.
