Federico Quarenghi (1858 - 1940) was born in Milan on 24 November 1858. His artistic training took place at the Brera Academy, where he had Giuseppe Bertini as a teacher. He regularly attended the Brera Exhibitions between 1883 and 1923, acquiring good notoriety as a portraitist, a theme to which he dedicated himself with passion and talent. He made his debut at the 1883 Braidense Exhibition with some portraits, including that of the painter Pusterla, with whom he frequented the Scapigliatura environments, feeling the influence of Cremona in particular. Accredited by a qualified local client, he created portraits (Portrait of a Lady, Milan, Gallery of Modern Art) and interior subjects which he presented at Milanese exhibitions until 1900. He experimented with various techniques, including fresco. He died in Milan on 7 May 1940.
