Marino Quartieri Biography

Marino Quartieri (1917 - 2002), a pupil of Graziosi, was an extremely restless artist from Modena, tending towards a continuous transgression even towards the classical ideal which he reinterprets as a new plastic modernity. In the redevelopment of Piazza Ciro Menotti in Fiorano Modenese in 2008, the monument by Marino Quartieri and the portion of the wall were included in the 'Garden of memory and peace'. There are numerous creations of public works by Quartieri including the monument to the Martyrs of 1821 and 1831 in Piazza San Domenico in Modena and among the latest the statue dedicated to Enzo Ferrari, a bronze column over five meters high and weighing sixty quintals which portrays the most significant stages in the life of the founder of Scuderia Ferrari. Created by the Modenese sculptor Marino Quartieri, the work is located next to the town hall, to testify to the bond that unites the car manufacturer to the city. A twin monument was donated to the city of Modena and is located in the Ferrari park.
