Rammellzee Biography
Rammellzee, born December 15, 1960 in Far Rockaway, New York and died in the same city on June 28, 2010, was an artist of the contemporary visual landscape, expert in Gothic futurism, graffiti writer, painter, performer, art theorist, New York City sculptor and hip hop musician. He was also a pioneer in introducing avant-garde elements into hip-hop culture. After studying dentistry, he began taking jewelry design courses at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). He was a member of the Death Comet Crew and a friend and collaborator of Jean-Michel Basquiat. He developed the theory of Gothic futurism, based on the description of a battle between the letters of the alphabet, which struggle to preserve their symbolic individuality against any kind of standardization imposed by the rules of the alphabet itself. He often exhibited self-made masks and costumes representing his personal mathematical equation, but this caused him health problems. Rammellzee died in New York City on June 28, 2010 at the age of 49, his death was caused by liver problems and heart disease.
