Renato Ranaldi Biography
Renato Ranaldi was born in 1941 in Florence. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, following the painting course of Ugo Capocchini, with whom he graduated in 1962. His first artistic work is characterized by the application of thick masses of oil color and the combination of different linguistic styles, to which is added the experimentation of techniques and materials. Along with this, his attention is mainly focused on drawing, which becomes the basis of his plastic work. In 1968, Ranaldi embarked on his first cinematic experience with Senilix, while in the same year his first solo exhibition was held at the La Zattera gallery in Florence, curated by Claudio Popovich. Since the 1990s, his artistic production has undergone a further transformation through the use of surfaces or strips of zinc, copper and brass laminates, obtained through mechanical folding. In 1994, the cycle of wooden frames of various sizes began, often painted with the color royal blue, while in the 1990s the cycle of "sculpted painting" ended. In addition to his constant exhibition activity, Ranaldi carries out intense editorial work and participates in the writing of many essays in art and literature magazines.
