Armand Rassenfosse was born in Liège on 6 August 1862 and was a Belgian graphic designer, illustrator and painter. His most famous work consists of a series of illustrations created for "Les Fleurs du mal" by Charles Baudelaire. In collaboration with Félicien Rops he developed the "Ropsenfosse" technique, a new interpretation of the painting technique which represented a real advancement in the art of printmaking. Rassenfosse is famous for having worked with the Bénard typography for which he created a large number of graphic posters.
Throughout his career he has paid great attention to female figures, often portrayed in solitary and vulnerable contexts. It also depicted different aspects of his personal life. At the end of his career he devoted himself to painting. Armand Rassenfosse died on January 28, 1934.
