Raysse Martial (Golfe-Juan, 1936) Martial Raysse studied literature and then devoted himself to painting. In the 1950s he dedicated himself to the creation of abstract paintings and in 1960 he participated in all the events of Nouveau Rèalisme. He participated in many exhibitions around the world and at the XXXIII Venice Biennale in 1969, winning the special prize reserved for under 45s. Subsequently he created the first Tableaux à gèomètrie variable, or female portraits obtained through the juxtaposition of panels assembled in random order. For the artist, faces represent our existence, in which all the heterogeneous elements are brought together thanks to a will, which recalls the very notion of life. In 1969 he participated in many collective exhibitions in various cities around the world and in 1982 he participated in the XXXVII Venice Biennale.
