Paul Rebeyrolle, born November 3, 1926 in Eymoutiers, was a renowned French painter. Since his childhood, he suffered from tuberculosis of the bones, which caused him to be immobilized for long periods. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Limoges, after which he participated in numerous group exhibitions, starting after the war. After admiring the Impressionists, Cubists and Picasso, he discovered the work of Soutine which he defined as a real revelation for him. His freedom in interpreting the appearance of beings led to a rapid transition from the representative to the plastic. He dedicated himself to a period of total abstraction, and then achieved a balance in his painting between the reality of the world and what he intends to express. His art is often focused on landscapes, but is marked by violence and anger. He died on February 7, 2005 in Boudreville.
