Recalcati Antonio (Bresso, 1938) Antonio Recalcati is an Italian painter. He made his debut with a personal exhibition at the Galleria Totti in Milan in 1957, where he showed his interest in abstract expressionism, from which he distanced himself in order to express the tension and anguish of his soul. In 1959 he exhibited the Impronte series at the Galleria del Cavallino in Venice. The artist, in order to cancel the distance between himself and the canvas, imprints parts of his body on a sienna colour, creating a sort of x-ray of his own internal state. In 1963 he exhibited one of his works at the "Contemporary Italian Paintings" exhibition, held in various Australian cities. During his trip to the United States he developed a strong interest in pop painting, creating works that took up the stereotype of the post card. In 1976 a retrospective was dedicated to him at the Center Pompidou in Paris and later a large anthology at Palazzo Reale in Milan.
