Ulysse Renaud Biography
Ulysse Renaud (1946 - 2021) was a painter and sculptor who grew up in the Yonne region of France and frequented art galleries throughout his adolescence, meeting the artists at the origin of Urban Art such as the visual artist Gérard Zlotykamien dit Zloty. Nourished by his numerous travels, he dedicated thirty years of his life to painting and sculpture, multiplying the supports: poems-objects on ancient canvas, cork, cardboard, raw canvas, paper, metal. His works combine joy and tragedy in a falsely naive colorful register, inspired by expressionism. It represents the simple things in life, revealing a fascination for the human figure, in particular for the female body and its language. The year 1988 marks a turning point. After a serious car accident, in which he lost his 10-year-old daughter, Otalia, he transformed all his work. In 2006, he opened his studio in the Gers countryside of Vic-Fezensac where he would spend the rest of his life. His works are exhibited in galleries in France, Italy, the United States and Germany.
