Antonio Reyna Manescau Biography

Antonio María De Reyna Manescau was born December 5, 1859 in Coin. Predisposed to drawing from a young age, he attended the School of Fine Arts in Malaga to begin his artistic training. Thanks to the celebrity he acquired in his hometown, the County Council granted him a cash income to allow him to expand his studies and knowledge. This allowed him to move to Italy, where he had the opportunity to study the ancient masters and learn about the artistic ferments that were developing in Italy and France. Antonio Maria De Reyna Manescau was considered one of the most significant authors of Venetian landscape painting between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, carefully painting the palaces and architecture of the city. For this reason he was referred to as "The painter of Venice". Thanks to his entirely personal technique, his works were characterized by a vibrant and intense light through a very chromatically rich palette. He participated in important exhibitions such as the National of Fine Arts in Paris in 1887 and the Great Exhibition of Rome in 1901 and 1911. Antonio Maria De Reyna Manescau died in Rome on 3 February 1937.
