Cesare Riva Biography
Cesare Riva (1943 - 2006) was born in Milan in 1943. After finishing his technical studies, he attended the School of Art of the Castello Sforzesco in Milan, approaching literary and artistic circles and trying his hand at drawing and poetry. He travels a lot, especially visiting museums in large European and American cities. In the 1970s he began to participate in the first collective exhibitions, including: Museum of Science and Technology, Milan (1974); "Milan Biennale" (1979); "Biennial of Dante's Bronzetto", Ravenna (1983); "Salon d'Automne" Paris (1983). In 1974 he presented the first of his personal exhibitions in Milan, which was then followed by numerous others, including: "Le Grazie" Cultural Center, Milan (1974; '75; '77; '78); S. Rocco Gallery, Seregno (1976); Borromeo Gallery, Milan (1977); Palazzo dei Priori, Perugia (1978); La Cripta Gallery, Milan (1979); "70" Art Gallery, Gallarate (1980; '82); Pagani Modern Art Gallery, Milan (1981); Rocca di Angera (1983); Municipal Building, Stresa (1986); Galleria delle Ore, Milan (1987; '93; '95); Ponte delle Gabelle Center, Milan (1988); Palazzo Fascie, Sestri Levante (1989); Galerie de Ballens, Ballens sur Morges, Switzerland (with Dominique Fontana, 1990); Municipal Library, Offanengo, CR (1994); Orea-Malia Gallery, Milan (1994); Ergy Space, Milan (1995); Headquarters, Banca Popolare, Milan (1995); Archaeological Museum, Milan (1996); ArtiStudio Gallery, Milan (1998). His works are part of public and private museums and collections, including: Civic Art Collections of Perugia and Gallarate; Museo Internacional de Escultura, Aire Libre de Hecho; Bertarelli Collection; Banca Popolare di Milano; Center d'Art du Puy, Guerin de Vayolles. Among the various awards we remember: "1st Prize for Sculpture", "Sculpture Review", Ternate, VA (1976); "III Prize", "II International Stone Biennial", Marino, Rome (1980); "III Prize", "Biennale V.Schiavio", Veleso, CO (1986). Having arrived in Versilia in 1972, since then he has resided there periodically to create his works at the Luigi Corsanini laboratories of Carrara, F.lli Cacciatori, Studio Sem and the Marble Carving Studio Sculpture School of Pietrasanta, where he has been an instructor since 1989. In the area Apuo-Versilia takes part in various exhibitions.
