Paolo Rizzatto Biography

Paolo Rizzatto, born on 25 December 1941 in Milan, is an architect who lives and works in the same city. His activity is mainly concentrated in the fields of architecture, interiors, design and lighting. He undertook his studies at the Faculty of Architecture of the Polytechnic of Milan, obtaining his degree in 1966 with the support of Franco Albini. During this journey, he began to dedicate himself to the design of objects and in 1973 he created his first lamp model (the 265 model), which was produced and marketed by Arteluce, a company founded in February 1939 by Gino Sarfatti and Maurizio Tempestini . Over the course of his career, he has collaborated with several companies including Alias, Artemide, Guzzini, Knoll, Kartell and Veneta Cucine. In 1978, together with Riccardo Sarfatti, he founded the company Luceplan. Rizzatto is also active as a teacher in various university institutes both in Italy and abroad. His works are held in the permanent collections of important museums and foundations, including the Milan Triennale, the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. He has received numerous awards, including five Compasso d'Oro Awards in 1981, 1989, 1995, 2008 and 2011.
