Max Roeder (Munich, 1866 - Rome, 1947) was a German painter and engraver, known above all for his representations of the Roman countryside. After studying painting in Munich with Paul Nauen, Roeder moved to Italy in 1886 and settled in Rome two years later. Here he participated in the exhibitions of the Society of Amateurs and Connoisseurs of Fine Arts, showing his ability to paint landscapes and views of the Roman countryside. Roeder drew inspiration from Arnold Böcklin and became part of the Deutsche-Römers movement.
His art has been praised for its ability to capture the romantic atmosphere of Italian landscapes. Throughout his life, Roeder published numerous works and in 1927 he wrote a book entitled "Jugendstürme. Lebensbilder eines Landschaftsmalers", which recounted his life and artistic experience.
