Augusto Romano Biography
Augusto Romano (1918-2001) is one of the most interesting figures of the Turin generation active after the Second World War, who, in the reading of his works, competitions and thoughts, crosses paths with the great themes that mark the architectural debate of the twentieth century. The post-war national and international movements, urban planning and competitions for the City of Turin (from the archaeological area, to Italia '61, to the Centro Direzionale), interior design and architecture, the INA-Casa Plan , building in the mountains become the plot of his professional path. His activity as a designer - "from the spoon to the city" - ranges from the design of furniture and furnishings (always published in international repertoires), to architecture, to urban planning, as declinations of a single, complete attention to the different aspects of living, the liveability of spaces, lifestyles and the relationship with the environment. His numerous creations in the field of subsidized housing, all with great attention to construction, have given Italian public housing a European tone.
