Ugo Rondinone is an internationally renowned artist who was born in Brunnen, Switzerland, in 1963. He currently lives and works in New York.
He studied at the Hochschule fur Angewandte Kunst in Vienna and has attracted international attention since 1990 thanks to a series of installations. The artist uses different materials and creates works of sculpture, painting, video, sound and photography that combine the influences of Pop Art and Minimalism. The series of sleeping "Clowns" abandoned inside the exhibition space are famous, representing human solitude in daily activities.
Rondinone has exhibited his works/installations in solo shows in many international contemporary art museums, including the Kunsthalle in Vienna, the MUSAC in León, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Louisiana, the Humlebaek in Denmark and the Sculpture Center in New York. In 2007, he represented Switzerland at the Venice Biennale.
