Stephen Rosenthal Biography
Stephen Rosenthal (1935 - ) is an American Postwar & Contemporary painter born in 1935, in Washington DC. Already active in New York from the second half of the 1960s, he explored the reduction of painting from the beginning, through research on works created on canvases without frames, up to the last Microcosms of the last period. He has had solo exhibitions since the 1970s at the John Weber Gallery in New York; Art and project, Amsterdam; Daniel Templon, Paris. His works have been exhibited at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam; Kunsthalle, Basel; PS1, New York; Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla, California; Stadtisches Museum, Leverkusen; Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris; Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia, just to name a few of the occasions. His paintings are included in the permanent collections of MoMA, New York; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego; Herbert Johnson Museum of Art, Ithaca; Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo; Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, Ridgefield, and in the Vogel collection, New York.
