Enzo Roberti was born in Subiaco on 11 August 1924 and completed his studies at the Teachers' Institute of Subiaco. He began to frequent the studio of the painter Benedetto Tozzi and became his student. In 1952, he moved to Rome and began working as a designer at the SRE (Società Romana di Elettricità), where he came into contact with the painting of Sante Monachesi, Giovanni Omiccioli and Mario Mafai. In 1963, he participated in the Figurative Arts Exhibition at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome. At the beginning of the seventies, Roberti created the "Shirts" series, a subject on which he would work for the rest of his life and which would give him good notoriety, despite his character and existential choice to stay out of artistic movements contemporaries. Roberti declined the Camicia in various contexts and in numerous series of works, with influences once again expressionist, but also surrealist and hyperrealist. The artist stated that the shirt represents the deepest self of the man who wears it and reveals his feelings, like a second skin. From the mid-seventies, Roberti created a series of portraits of famous people, represented with a shirt that defined their character. Enzo Roberti died in Rome on 29 January 1990.
