Mario Rutelli (Palermo, 4 April 1859 – Rome, 4 November 1941) was an Italian sculptor. From a family of British origin (Rüdelle/Rütelle) who moved to Italy at the time, Mario Rutelli was the son of the architect Giovanni Rutelli and Vita Romano; he belongs to a family with traditions also in the architecture sector since the first half of the eighteenth century in Palermo with the architect Mario Rutelli, his direct ancestor; the father of the sculptor Mario (formerly an architect and building contractor), also an artist and industrialist in great demand at the time, was the legitimate owner of the company -Rutelli & Machì[1][2]- which entirely built the monumental Teatro Massimo VE II in Palermo and also technically directed its construction which was entrusted to him by the architect Giovan Battista Filippo Basile, the designer of the same theater. Mario Rutelli Biography

Mario Rutelli (Palermo, 4 April 1859 – Rome, 4 November 1941) was an Italian sculptor. From a family of British origin (Rüdelle/Rütelle) who moved to Italy at the time, Mario Rutelli was the son of the architect Giovanni Rutelli and Vita Romano; he belongs to a family with traditions also in the architecture sector since the first half of the eighteenth century in Palermo with the architect Mario Rutelli, his direct ancestor; the father of the sculptor Mario (formerly an architect and building contractor), also an artist and industrialist in great demand at the time, was the legitimate owner of the company -Rutelli & Machì[1][2]- which entirely built the monumental Teatro Massimo VE II in Palermo and also technically directed its construction which was entrusted to him by the architect Giovan Battista Filippo Basile, the designer of the same theater. Mario Rutelli is also the author of multiple decorations relating to the capitals of the same Teatro Massimo Vittorio Emanuele. Mario Rutelli studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo and then in Rome with Giulio Monteverde.
