Peter Rysbrack, born in Paris in 1690, was a Flemish still life and landscape painter, best known for popularizing the fashion for topographical views of English country houses and gardens during the first half of the 18th century. Son of the famous landscape painter Pieter of Antwerp, Rysbrack learned to paint under his father's guidance and was admitted to the Guild of St. Luke in Antwerp in 1711. Around 1720, the artist moved to London with his younger brother, John Michael Rysbrack , famous sculptor of the time. Among the most prestigious commissions received by Rysbrack, that of Lord Burlington stands out, who commissioned him to create a series of portraits of the main country houses of Chiswick House. Peter Rysbrack died in London in October 1748, probably due to a consumptive illness.
