Fathi Gouda Saad Hassan (1935) is an Egyptian designer, teacher and artist. he currently teaches at the University of Applied Arts in the Decorative Arts department of Cairo.
He worked on the creation of urban road signs, conceiving simplified forms of Arabic letters. These forms were, in his opinion, "modern" and inevitable modifications of Arabic letters. Before Fathi, signs were made by calligraphers, who treated signs primarily as commercial calligraphic works with little attention to space, coherence, arrangement, composition, or design.
