Anna Saba Biography
Anna Saba was born in Guspini in 1947 and spent much of her artistic life in the Sardinia region. He demonstrated a great passion for sculpture from a young age, seeking to explore the possible transitions between the local granite and the soft marble surfaces of the Apennines. Saba has dedicated his career to producing works of art that combine the biomechanics of rocks and minerals with their artistic expression.
His works have been exhibited in several permanent galleries throughout Sardinia, including Nuoro, Cagliari, Villanovaforru and Monserrato. They are also present in other cities and even in foreign countries, such as Dakar, where Anna has created bronze sculptures.
His works manage to capture the life hidden in the marble blocks, and to extract the archetypal and mysterious shapes of the stones. Anna Saba does not limit herself to manipulating them on the surface, but shapes them from the inside, capturing and creating the essence of the sculpted object, where naturalistic influences sometimes emerge, invoking the memories of leaves, bones, rocks and fossils.
Although Saba is mainly known for her large-scale sculptures, it is precisely the search for an expressive force that allows her to also create small-format works, where it is possible to grasp the meditation suggested by naturalistic art. Thanks to her strong sensitivity, in fact, Anna Saba has been able to express her creative imagination through various sculptural works, with a breadth that goes from minimalist to monumental forms, from the highest degree of complexity to the most elementary.
