Marc Sadler Biography
Marc Sadler, born in 1946 in Innsbrück, is a French citizen who has lived and worked in Milan for many years. He graduated from ENSAD (École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs) in Paris and specialized in the use of plastic materials, contributing to the innovation of processing technologies. Sadler has been known as a designer of technical accessories for sports since the 1970s, when he designed and patented a ski boot in thermoplastic material with a symmetrical shell, which achieved great success. His collaboration with sports companies has played an important role in his career: in addition to the long partnership with the Italian company Caber, which later became Lotto, in the nineties he designed an innovative back protector for the Dainese motorcycle brand, which became part of from the permanent design collection of the MOMA in New York. Sadler has won the ADI Compasso d'Oro several times: in 1994 for the rubber applique "Drop" for Flos; in 2001 for the "Tite" and "Mite" lamps for Foscarini (the latter included in the permanent design collection of the Beaubourg in Paris), made with a mixture of carbon thread and glass fibre, which allow to obtain a functional structure and a distinctive graphic decoration; in 2008 for the "Big" bookcase by Caimi Brevetti, with aluminum uprights and painted steel shelves; and in 2014 for the "Bellevue" refrigerated counter with Panorama technology for IFI, which allows the use of the traditional well structure for ice cream, preserving the product and at the same time ensuring its visibility. He recently designed the "Tyla" floor lamp for Kundalini (2021), inspired by the shapes of an aquatic plant, and in 2020 he won the Archiproducts Design Award with the "Accordéon" lamp for Slamp. Over the course of his career, Sadler has dedicated himself to numerous other projects, favoring the use of plastic materials and often experimenting with innovative production processes in the furniture, lighting and household appliances sectors of various sizes. He has also collaborated with the telephone company Tim and the fashion house Ferragamo for the design of furnishing systems for shops, the setting up of shop windows and exhibition modules.
